Jon Bowles

Jon Bowles Art Tutor

Following completion of my BA (Hons) in fine art (Kent institute of art and design in the United Kingdom), I undertook work within the film,tv,modelmaking, teaching and industrial design industries including prop-making and set design and have assisted many artists and designers. This has continued since my migration to Adelaide in 2003.

As a maker I cherish the times I have to 'play' in the studio, for these are the times true discoveries are made. My own fascinations and curiosities spark with the possibilities of materials and my concepts again and again refer to the notion of interdependancy, human nature and the cosmos we share.

As a teacher 'play' lies at the heart of my ethos and the joy comes from opening the door of discovery for my students.

I am a visual artist based in Exeter, South Australia and the principal/director of Active Art Studios. I work in a variety of traditional and non-traditional arts mediums including: clay, painting, drawing, photography, crochet, embroidery and mosaics.

I enjoy taking traditional craft materials and turning them on their head to be used in a contemporary context.

It has been my lifetime dream to own and run an art school that caters for the artistic capabilities of all people from beginners to professional practicing artists. I also provide corporate arts events to businesses wishing to involve their staff in creative ways of thinking with an arts focus. My blog entitled 'Roustabout Art'  can be found at ess-jayart.blogspot.com where I write and talk about all things art related.

I am inspired by the garden, my nephew and the joy of creating. and sharing this with others.  My motto is 'Art is Life'.

Sue Heinemann

Sue Heinemann Art Tutor

For me the process of drawing and painting is seductive. I see it as a form of enquiry, discovery and invention - as "serious play" which offers immense challenge, stimulation and satisfaction.
As for my approach to teaching and learning: I believe that knowledge and skills underpin one's capacity for freedom and exhilaration in art (or any other endeavour!) And that the essence of teaching is to make learning contagious and, above all, to foster curiosity. Let's go!
